Are you interested in working for a world top 100 university? We have exciting opportunities in the School of Law at the University of Sheffield for excellent researchers and inspiring teachers. We are looking to recruit a Lecturer in Criminology for maternity leave cover. The successful candidate will have completed or be very near to completion of a PhD (or have equivalent research experience). Evidence of potential to publish internationally excellent research is essential. The successful applicant will carry out research, deliver research-led teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and supervise undergraduate and master’s dissertations. An ability to contribute to a range of areas of criminology and criminal justice is essential.
The University of Sheffield’s School of Law is a large and diverse school with an international reputation for excellence in research, for the expertise of its staff, and the achievement of its graduates. Our vision is to advance the inter-disciplinary understanding of law, socio-legal studies and criminology, combining outstanding research with innovative research-led teaching. Our internationalisation strategy has led to a global network of research and teaching links. We encourage all undergraduate students to spend a year abroad with one of our partners, and we have structured all of our degree programmes to facilitate this. The School’s civic engagement activities connect it with the city of Sheffield, and with partners in the commercial, public and third sectors, nationally and internationally. The School’s wide-ranging pro bono work enriches our students’ experience and promotes an ethic of service to justice shared by staff, student, alumni and other supporters of the School.
You will join over 60 academic staff and a large professional support team. The total student body numbers around 1,100 undergraduates and 200 postgraduates. The School has a dedicated home in Bartolome House, a Grade II listed building, close to the main campus and library with easy access to the centre of Sheffield. We believe in the power of diversity to help us address global challenges and aim to actively build a diverse team. We particularly welcome applications from currently under-represented groups, including candidates who are from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.
Our School forms part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, which is a large and diverse grouping of thirteen departments, including ‘classical’ social science departments, but also several other major subject areas, some of which are distinctive to Sheffield. This rich and exciting disciplinary mix, encompassing both world-leading academic research and education and also a strong practitioner focus in particular areas, uniquely positions the Faculty among Sheffield’s peer institutions.
We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
