Job description
The Department of Physics is seeking to recruit a new lecturer to help develop forward-looking academic programmes using innovative Physics across traditional disciplinary boundaries. We are searching for a diverse pool of qualified applicants who will show dedication to both research and teaching, and make significant contributions to improving the Department’s diversity, equality and inclusion.
We are looking for researchers fitting within the current departmental footprint, who have a PhD and postdoctoral experience in an area complementing or enhancing the departmental expertise. You should have an open and collaborative research outlook, with a creative, original, and distinctive research vision. You should also have a high-quality publication record, and the potential to secure external research funding.
You must have some experience of teaching, with highly effective oral and written communication skills, and have the potential to provide academic leadership, to function within a team and to plan and prioritize workload.
This is an exciting time to join us in a unique opportunity to shape the future of our Department of Physics at one of the most prestigious Universities in the UK. Our vision is to firmly establish a contemporary department, where key part of King’s Physics ethos is equality, with a fulfilling academic culture for all, and an emphasis on tackling the under-representation of women in science and active involvement in the University’s commitment to the Race Equality Charter. We currently hold a silver Athena Swan award and Juno Champion status from the Institute of Physics (IOP).
The Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) comprises Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, and Physics – all departments are highly rated in research activities and have a wide-ranging portfolio of education programmes. The university is making investment in NMES and both student and staff numbers are growing. Our staff come from over 45 countries and 56% of our students are from outside the UK. KCL staff are principally located on the Strand Campus in the heart of central London, further details available at
