About the Role:
The Cambridge School of Art is one of 3 Schools in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at ARU a hub of creative and cultural innovation with a diverse and energetic research culture. We nurture creativity through experimentation, risk-taking, and encourage critical thinking to educate, entertain, inspire and understand people, as well as improving their lives. In collaboration with Cambridge School of Creative Industries and Humanities & Social Sciences, working alongside a number of partners in the creative and cultural industries enriching the cultural life of our students.
The Cambridge School of Art, at the Ruskin Building on the Cambridge campus, has grown in the last five years. We are looking to appoint an experienced lecturer, full-time to complement our talented and experienced academic team.
We require a lecturer in 3D Computer Animation, with skills in:
For our Visual Communication Framework course group.
The main role will involve the development/teaching of the 3D computer animation related modules within the course, an area the department is keen to develop and expand on. The candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of 3D software and its application. We currently use Maya, but are open to other 3D industry software’s for teaching.
An understanding of 3D animation principles, animation fundamentals and advanced techniques, such as lighting, texturing, rendering, rigging and compositing, are also required as part of your 3D teaching role.
Depending on your skillset, experience and knowledge of 2D animation software and motion graphics, using After Effects, would be other areas within the course, applying your skills. Concept/character design and a knowledge of storyboarding, contemporary narrative form and animation film language, would also be an asset.
Good communication skills are key, you will be expected to take on administration and leadership duties as required from a lecturer/senior member of the faculty. You will be working collaboratively with colleagues to develop the curriculum, maintain the smooth running of the programme, creating a good all round experience for the students.
You will have a higher degree, be a team player with a proven track record in HE teaching and professional practice experience commensurate with the stage of your career. You’ll be able to work to tight deadlines, or working independently with minimum supervision and liaising closely with senior colleagues from our partners and key stakeholders.
