The Post

The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Manager will join a vibrant and expanding team at the heart of the University and will have the opportunity to lead our next steps to achieve the ambitions set out in our institutional strategy and associated EDI/culture change strategy and policy framework.

The postholder will proactively lead the development and implementation of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion related strategies, policies and projects to influence a positive institutional culture of equity and inclusiveness. The EDI Manager will have extensive knowledge of the relevant equalities and human rights legislation, including application of the Equality Act and associated Public Sector Equality Duties within Higher Education or a similar regulated sector/organisation.

The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to establish themselves as an influential and credible professional source of EDI knowledge and expertise across the institution. As such, they must have the ability to develop effective working partnerships across the institution, and to achieve buy in and shared ownership for positive culture change.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly collaborative team, in a new role, reporting to the Head of Policy and Planning and working closely with senior colleagues including the Senior Deputy Principal and the Institutional Dean for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Description of Duties

  • Lead on and contribute to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion/culture change initiatives, projects and policy work to further promote an institutional culture founded on principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and wellbeing
  • Develop and enhance the University’s approach to equality, diversity and inclusion, to meet legislative and good practice guidelines, including the Equality Act 2010/Public Sector Equality Duties and other legislation related to aspects of the EDI agenda
  • Identify sectoral good practice in relation to EDI and facilitate the sharing of this practice through institutional EDI networks
  • Provide high quality professional advice on current and emerging policy issues relating to equality, diversity and inclusion to staff including senior management, horizon scan for future developments in the EDI arena and brief senior colleagues accordingly

Essential Criteria

  • A degree level education or equivalent through relevant training/ experience
  • Professional experience of working in an EDI or culture change role in a complex organisation providing advice and direction to senior managers
  • Demonstrable experience of developing EDI policy, strategies/plans and delivering EDI initiatives aimed at achieving positive culture change
  • Proven ability to think strategically, to prioritise effectively and to balance a demanding and varied workload
  • Extensive and in-depth knowledge of relevant equalities and human rights legislation, including the application of the Equality Act 2010 and Public Sector Equality Duty within Higher Education or a similar regulated sector/organisation
  • Experience of interpreting legislation and applying it in a complex organisational context
