Job description

The opportunity  

As the Finance Administrator you will be instrumental in helping to transform our Research and Innovation support services here at Cardiff Metropolitan University. You will use your comprehensive experience and expertise to provide first class administrative support for research and innovation projects whilst building close working relationships with the central finance and procurement departments and campus staff involved in finance and procurement.

  • Provide project support to staff engaging in research and innovation activities and be the point of contact for the School of Education & Social Policy and the School of Sport and Health Science research and innovation.
  • Maintain databases in relation to research and innovation activities, running associated reports as required.
  • Monitor research and innovation project finance against account codes, ensuring quality data for auditing purposes.
  • Process staff expenses claims and check for accuracy and propriety prior to payment by finance. Provide induction information to new staff on university policies in relation to reimbursements, claims and purchases.
  • Organise UK and overseas travel and subsistence arrangements ensuring value for money and most effective mode of travel. Monitor costs and advise of projected overspends.
  • Handle confidential information appropriately and in accordance with GDPR and other legal requirements.

What we are looking for:

Education and Qualification

  • GCSE grade A – C in 5 subjects including Maths and English or equivalent qualifications

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Knowledge of administration processes.
  • Knowledge of finance and procurement systems and procedures.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent administrative skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Numerate.
  • Effective communication skills both written and oral.
  • Excellent time management, planning and organisational skills.
  • Effective Interpersonal skills, including ability to work at all levels and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to produce reports, spreadsheets, and other information to advise and inform others.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to a high standard producing quality results within set timescales.
  • Ability to manage and analyse financial data.
  • IT skills sufficient to interrogate and maintain databases and to produce reports and presentations.

Experience

  • Experience of administration and minute taking.
  • Experience of maintaining effective and efficient records.
  • Experience of reviewing practices and implementing change.
  • Experience of purchasing.
  • Experience of supporting projects.
