Lecturer in Roman History

The role

The Department of Classics and Ancient History is seeking to appoint a fixed-term part-time pathway 3 Lecturer in Roman History, to provide cover for a colleague who is unavailable at short notice. This is primarily a teaching and administrative role.

What will you be doing?

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• teach an existing unit on Roman Imperial Culture, covering the period from Tiberius (14 CE) to Hadrian (138 CE)
• teach an existing unit, Latin B2, which aims to introduce students to a range of skills in independent reading and analysis of Latin literature
• mark undergraduate dissertations, possibly outside the field of Roman History on other ancient historical topics

You should apply if

• You have completed a PhD in the Classics, Classical Studies, Ancient History, or a related field by the end of January 2023. You may also have a track record in research publication in this field and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning.
• You have a proven track record in teaching in the field at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
• You are available to start on or before 20th February 2023. The contract will run until 30th June 2023.
• You are able to work flexibly during the period to meet the demands of the role, which will require approximately 18.5 hours per week on average.

Please note that this is an in-person teaching role.

Interviews are anticipated to be held on 3rd or 6th February, the date is due to be confirmed.
