About the role:

Based in our Faculty of Science and Engineering, the School of Engineering and the Built Environment offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in architecture, civil engineering, construction/project management, quantity and building surveying, town planning and mechanical engineering. We’re seeking to appoint a Lecturer to teach Architecture to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. We are particularly interested to hear from applicants with applied and practical experience.

We currently offer BA and BSc Architecture programmes, with ambitions to grow numbers further. The Courses are ARB prescribed and RIBA accredited. We are passionate about the catalytic role of innovative pedagogies to transform individuals and our new curriculum is structured around an ethical and environmentally sensitive approach to design. Specialist facilities include newly constructed studio spaces, alongside a manual model-making workshop and a cutting-edge digital lab.

In 2021 and 2022 three ARU graduates participated in the Architects’ Journal’s final-year student competition, for the first time, with one winning the Special Award for Innovation and Sustainability. In addition, a report in the Architects’ Journal 2021 Education section described our Architecture school as ‘full of promise.’

You’ll have a PhD (or nearing completion) and extensive industrial experience in a related discipline and carry interest in teaching at Higher Education Institution. Under the supervision of the Deputy Head of School, you’ll be responsible for teaching Architecture and related programmes and where necessary, support other subject disciplines in the school. You’ll be committed to research and prepared to work as part of multi-disciplinary research teams as well as developing your personal research activities in sustainability and environmental design or related subject.
