The Context:

British Council is a leading organisation in the field of international education. We have offices in over 100 countries and one the largest education networks in the world. Through our UK and global programmes, we reach millions of students, graduates and professionals every year. Two priority areas within our portfolio of higher education work are to support international student recruitment and to develop and maintain a vibrant network of international UK alumni.

The Study UK Alumni Awards, together with the wider programme of alumni activity, is an important element of the Study UK campaign.

The Opportunity.

Role Purpose:

You will lead the planning and monitoring and to ensure delivery of a global programme of activities for UK alumni (former international students following UK higher education studies) that forms an integral part of the Study UK campaign, and is delivered within the framework of the British Council’s Alumni UK programme. In particular, the postholder will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the planning, implementation and delivery of a high-profile award campaign on a global scale – the Alumni Awards - including a global call and support for delivery of national level awards in selected countries.
  • Overseeing project management, content development and revision, and promotions of the Study UK MOOC to support UK alumni and graduate employability.
  • Ensuring alumni activity in priority Study UK countries is planned, monitored and delivered including meeting budget and impact targets.
  • Stakeholder management: liaising with country teams and external higher education sector stakeholders as required.
  • Ensuring that all alumni activity delivered as part of the Study UK campaign is coordinated and aligned with the wider portfolio of alumni work conducted through the British Council’s Global Alumni Programme.

Responsibilities:

  • Programme planning and management for alumni activity within the Study UK campaign
  • Successful delivery of annual Alumni Awards programme
  • Monitoring and ensuring successful delivery of Study UK alumni activity in priority countries, including monitoring budgets and impact
  • Continual improvement and development of activities, based on impact monitoring and stakeholder feedback
  • Managing stakeholder relations with key operational contacts at higher education institutions, including chairing the Alumni Award advisory group
  • Line-management of at least one other colleague
  • Ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion requirements are mainstreamed into programme planning and delivery in accordance with corporate values and guidelines

Requirements of the role:

  • Knowledge and prior experience of having delivered project activity within a UK higher education setting or context.
  • An understanding, based on experience, of international higher education, in particular student recruitment and marketing.
  • Planning and Organising: Level 3. Develops and reviews the implementation of annual plans for a work group or function, taking account of business and customer requirements and reconciling competing demands
