Senior Lecturer/Lecturer - Software Engineering and Computer Science

We are currently recruiting Lecturers to join the School of Computing and Data Sciences. The candidate will teach various modules in the BSc (Hons) Software Engineering and Computer Science programmes. To access detailed programme specifications and list of modules, please visit the link.

About the Role

The candidates joining as Senior Lecturer/Lecturer at this stage is actually considered as founding team members of the respective school. By demonstrating their leadership capabilities, skills, motivation, and productivity, they will subsequently be considered for senior roles and responsibilities in the school, including Dean/Associate Dean of the School, Programme leader roles, Module leader roles, Coordinator positions, etc. There are plenty of opportunities to grow within the institution for the right candidates.

Our Expectations

The ideal candidates for these positions will be able to demonstrate their ability to:

  • Deliver on a range of modules across the respective programme,
  • Develop the teaching material and assessments for the modules they deliver across the programme. All lecturers are also expected to make relevant contributions to teaching material and assessment development for all modules across programmes to ensure that learning objectives are met.
  • Ensure that existing modules are revised and updated as per the latest developments in the industry,
  • Collaborate with the industry advisory boards to enhance the relevance and quality of the programme and modules,
  • Develop assessments for the modules on the programme, ensuring that they are as per LJMU guidelines and policies, in line with the assessment matrix and meet the deadlines for verification and external moderation,
  • Take on the role of a personal tutor for students across the programme portfolio,
  • Act as an academic coach and mentor to students, be available and willing to discuss students’ concerns and issues as they arise, their performance and academic progression,
  • Teach and assess students across a range of written and presentation skills and giving individual feedback on students’ performances,
  • Participate in extra-curricular activities building teamwork and student engagement
  • To supervise or co-supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects within their field of expertise,
  • Meet all LJMU academic regulations and Oryx Universal College Quality Assurance processes related to the modules and programmes they deliver,
  • Contribute to the continuous development of existing programmes and introduce new programmes within the school they are affiliated to,
  • Develop and deliver CPD and short courses to enhance the portfolio of the School of Computing and Data Sciences,
  • Engage in approved research to contribute to the knowledge in strategic priority areas,
  • To prepare and deliver lectures and seminars, conduct tutorials, practical sessions, workshops, and student field excursions in both undergraduate and postgraduate level programmes,
  • To attend departmental, school and faculty meetings and membership of a number of committees,
  • Commit to structured and unstructured continuous professional and personal development to enhance performance, career growth opportunities and to unlock potential, and
  • To take part, proactively and on-demand, in other corporate and academic activities to contribute to the strategy and growth plans of the college.

About You

We expect you to demonstrate the following requirements: 

  • Hold a postgraduate degree (preferably a PhD degree OR being in the process of completing a PhD in relevant research fields OR a master's degree with relevant industry experience) 
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English
  • Ambition and motivation in the pursuit of academic research and excellence
  • Demonstrate the ability to drive the best potential of every student through trust, quality of engagement and demonstrate a leadership approach to influence others
  • Expertise in application and delivery of appropriate teaching techniques, pastoral care, mentoring students, assessments and marking
  • Work well independently and collaboratively with colleagues enriching a highly valued corporate culture based on trust relationships and mutual respect
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail, able to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and innovative mindset
  • Experience and/or qualifications in teaching in a tertiary education environment
  • The ability to work well in a team and enrich the corporate culture of the wider organization

Regarded as additional value:

  • Experience in conducting high-quality academic research and a track record of refereed research publications would be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide research guidance to junior researchers.
  • Experience in curriculum and subject material development would be considered as an advantage.
  • Experience in developing processes and/or implementing processes and policies in a tertiary education environment will be a great value addition to the college.

The selected candidates are expected to relocate to Qatar around March-May 2023.

Benefits

  • Location: Doha, Qatar
  • Annual Salary Package: Between GBP 65,000 – 90,000 which includes Accommodation Allowance and Transportation Allowance
  • Private Medical Insurance is provided to all sponsored employees and their dependents with other benefits (Salary is tax-free in Qatar). Candidates who can demonstrate track record in leadership competencies and achievements can expect to be considered for the higher spectrum of the scale.
  • Rapid growth opportunities are available based on demonstration of competencies, potential contribution to growth and outstanding performance. Additional allowances such as dependent children school fee allowance will be considered for those candidates willing to move to Qatar with families.
  • Hours: Fulltime

We offer excellent remuneration packages to suitable candidates on par with market conditions, and an additional incentive package linked to organization level KPIs can be negotiated. In the State of Qatar, salary is not subjected to any local tax.
