We are currently seeking a Head of Catering & Events to lead the Catering & Events function which is part of the Commercial Services directorate within University Services. In addition to a team directly employed by the University, you will also be responsible for University of Glasgow Commercial Limited (UoGC), the University’s wholly owned subsidiary, and exerting impact and influence over the way in which the company discharges its responsibility to deliver on behalf of the University.
The Catering & Events function is one of the few components of the institution which has the chance to engage every student and colleague on campus as an integral part of the University eco-system. With a potential customer base of some 40,000 staff and students across the University, you will provide senior leadership for a variety of retail catering outlets, a recently re-launched function catering business and successful conferencing, events and location filming business. The role provides a fantastic opportunity to build on and refresh the existing strategy by contributing new ideas which grow the reputational and financial value the service generates. Budgeted turnover for the service in 23/24 will be in excess of £4m and there is considerable scope to develop and launch new initiatives which will enhance the student experience.
Beyond the functional responsibility for Catering & Events, you will be a key member of the senior leadership team within the Commercial Services directorate. Reporting to the Executive Director, Commercial Services, you will work alongside colleagues in student accommodation, retail, sport, printing and the University nursery. With your peers, you will have a chance to become involved in the more strategic aspects of leading the directorate workforce, inspiring our team through employee engagement, and fostering a spirit of collaborative cross-functional working.
You will possess strong and detailed knowledge of the service sector and ability to demonstrate an understanding of the local and national marketplace as well as E management and leadership of a wide range of food service provision. You will hold recent experience as an industry professional in a similar or related role, within a complex organisation with high standards of customer service and quality.
You will have experience developing high performing teams and understanding service excellence. You will have the gravitas, influencing and people skills to effect change and contribute to senior level decision making within a highly performing university.
This is a full time, open ended role.
