Maintaining a safe environment for our students, staff and visitors is a key priority for the University. We have a large mutli-site campus and as such our security team provide a front line service in maintaining standards and upholding security arrangements at all times of the day and night. As a Security Officer, you will be a friendly contact point for the thousands of students, staff and visitors that come to our beautiful, 67 acre campus, 25 minutes from London Waterloo.
You will be part of a specialist team of highly-trained and dedicated security officers responsible for the effective implementation of the University security and safety procedures under the direction of the Security Supervisors and managers. You will be working in an environment surrounded by beautiful grounds, listed buildings and working with amazing people. This role incorporates safeguarding and support, enhancing the student’s safety and experience on campus by pro-actively talking to students in a friendly & supportive way to identify how they are and what issues may arise on campus.
You’ll enjoy the variety of dealing with a range of activities every shift, from ensuring the safety of everyone while patrolling on campus, pointing students and visitors in the right direction, helping students with welfare issues or when rules and responsibilities need to be enforced, dealing with crimes, responding to fire alarms and calls for first aid. Your ability to communicate with people at all levels will be well used. No two shifts are the same and whilst the work can be challenging and rewarding, this is a great job for those who enjoy helping others.
You would be working on an annualised rotating shift pattern, 24/7 & 365 days a year, working an average of 35 hours per week including day and night shifts, which is focused to meet the University’s seasonal activities and support you in your work/life balance. For further details of the shift pattern please refer to the job description. You’ll need to hold a full manual, clean driving licence to drive our vehicles around campus, a valid Security Industry Authority Licence to Door Supervisor level and experience of a similar role elsewhere.
