Reporting to: National Clinical Programme in Surgery (NCPS) Programme Manager

Programme Structure:

NCPS reports directly into both the RCSI Committee for Surgical Affairs (CSA) and the Director of Clinical Design and Innovation of the HSE and has close links with the office of the National Clinical Adviser Group Lead for Acute Operations.  The clinical programme team includes two Co-Leads along with six National Clinical Advisors (General Surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology, Plastic, Oral & Maxillofacial, Vascular) all of whom work part time for the programme, along with special interest project managers, programme Manager and administration support.  The programme also closely collaborates with the Transforming theatre programme, HSE business intelligence, NQAIS clinical and the department of surgical affairs in RCSI.

The Role 

The NCPS are seeking to appoint a Nurse Lead. This role is a for a senior nurse leader, working at national level to drive, support and facilitate the implementation of the NCPS and specialist initiatives at a national, hospital group and local hospital level.  The role involves working across all surgical specialties.

Specific Projects including:

  • Peri-operative nursing
  • The Role of Nursing in Surgical Models of Care
  • Developing surgical patient pathways
  • Engagement with the Older Persons Programme

Annual Registration

  • Practitioners must maintain live annual registration in the General Nurse Division, and other divisions as relevant to the specific service, of the Register of Nurses and Midwives, as appropriate, maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI]
  • Practitioners must confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC)

Post Specific Requirements:

  • Significant and relevant senior nursing management experience at a minimum in Surgery, and/or Theatre Services
  • Possess the requisite knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office to include the relevant leadership capacity and knowledge of the NCPS Model(s) of Care.
