Brunel University London was established in 1966 and is a leading multidisciplinary research-intensive technology university delivering economic, social and cultural benefits. For more information please visit: https://www.brunel.ac.uk/about/our-history/home
A highly enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Research Fellow is sought for 24 months in the first instance, to join a research group working on exciting projects on supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) heat to power conversion systems. The projects funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the H2020 programme of the European Union involve both experimental investigations in the laboratory and dynamic simulation and control of both small scale and large MW scale systems. The projects involve collaboration with other academic institutions and industry in the UK and EU.
Experimental investigations are performed on two test facilities. A small-scale test system able to test heat exchangers up to 30 kW thermal capacity and temperatures and pressures of up to 500 oC and 250 bar respectively, and a larger scale demonstration facility of 60 kW electrical generation capacity.
The applicant is expected to have a good understanding of heat to power energy conversion systems and a good knowledge of thermodynamic modelling, dynamic simulation and control. Previous experience with experimental investigations and simulation and control of sCO2 heat to power cycles will be considered an advantage.
The appointee will also be expected to have very good communication skills and be able to work closely with other researchers in the group and project collaborators.
