About the role
The purpose of the role is to ensure the provision of a customer focused retail service through the implementation of approved operational plans, meeting or exceeding the key performance indicators set out and striving to maintain a culture of excellence in all areas of operation with sustainability at the core of all the operations.
The Retail Assistant will ensure the shop is open and fully operational at scheduled times, ensuring standards are maintained throughout the service, delivering exceptional levels of customer care and satisfaction and a smooth handover of shifts.
The Zero Waste Shop is a concept store that requires a passion for sustainability and will allow the post holder to drive sustainability and educate customers about the importance of a carbon neutral approach.
About You
You must have a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade A-C including in English and Mathematics and have a basic food hygiene / level 2 food hygiene certificate, although this can be achieved after appointment. You will have experience in working in a busy retail environment and delivering a good customer service. You must have good communication skills and be confident in interacting with the public. Successful candidates must have a genuine passion for sustainability and uphold Queen Mary’s values to the highest of standards.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a fixed-term appointment, variable hours per week for one year.
Starting salary will be Grade 1 - £12.65 per hour, inclusive of London Allowance.
