About the roleWe have exciting new opportunities to appoint two Study Advisers. You will join us at the AccessAbility Centre, providing specialist support for students with specific learning difficulties and/or AD(H)D. This will include students both on course and in transition into and out of higher education.
As a Study Adviser, you will be responsible for understanding and explaining the impact of specific learning difficulties on all aspects of student life, particularly study, and promoting the use of study skills and techniques to remove barriers to learning and academic success. Students often have co-occurring conditions and so the student caseload will call for an understanding of other disabilities as well as specific learning difficulties and/or AD(H)D.
About youThe ideal candidate for this role will be degree-educated (or equivalent) with experience of working in a Further or Higher Education environment, utilising excellent interpersonal skills to demonstrate an understanding of and an appropriate response to specific learning difficulties and other disabilities in higher education.
It is essential that candidates have teaching qualifications or equivalent which meet the DfE’s mandatory qualifications framework. For more information, see

In terms of knowledge, you should be able to demonstrate an understanding of disability and equality and data protection legislation. On a daily basis, you will be required to interpret SpLD Assessment reports and screening tests, and demonstrate excellent communication skills in written, oral, remote and face to face contexts as well as patience, pragmatism, problem-solving and understanding.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 because the appointee will have substantial access to young people and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, an appointment to this post will be subject to checking through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The successful applicant for this post will, therefore, be required to give consent for the University to check and obtain appropriate clearance with the DBS for the existence and content of any criminal record in the form of an Enhanced Adult Workforce check.
