Do you have a PhD or equivalent qualification in a social science discipline or relevant field, plus proven experience of working in sustainability, biodiversity and/or environmental fields and conducting socio-economic analysis? Are you looking for a challenging role in an environment that's open, vibrant and welcomes new ideas? Then join the University of East London's Sustainability Research Institute as a Socio-Economist Professor/Associate Professor.

Since its launch in 2001, the Sustainability Research Institute (SRI) has brought together research and development of innovative eco-efficient technologies and processes, focusing on changes in the physical infrastructure that benefit the environment and promote a carbon-neutral society. Over the last ten years, we have delivered a wide range of publicly funded research projects, undertaken numerous consultancy contracts and contract research initiatives, and built an excellent international reputation by applying ground-breaking research and development in the real world. Our work focuses on a range of emerging research fields and pressing urban and rural sustainability challenges and is centred on three key themes: green infrastructure, resource management and sustainable society.

Right now, we're looking for an accomplished environmental socio-economist to join our multi-disciplinary team, take on a leadership role, develop and support new research activity, and support a number of ongoing projects. As well as conducting socio-economic analysis and designing innovative research based on excellent reviews of existing literature, we'll look to you to write reports on your findings and communicate them with experts from other fields.

Along the way, you'll need to regularly liaise with a variety of partners and colleagues in order to achieve high quality results. You'll also get to contribute to SRI community, research, knowledge exchange, teaching, and income generation. Initiating and contributing to new funding applications will be important too. And, when it comes to mentoring early-career academics and research students - with a particular focus on the Sustainable Society team - again, we'll count on you to deliver.

As this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced researcher to work on sustainability projects across the UK, Europe and globally, you'll need a good understanding of the socio-economic issues increasingly associated with environmental solutions and strategies and the ability to communicate these clearly. What's more, as environmental initiatives are increasingly impacting on, and making use of economic factors, you'll need to bring experience of socio-economic implications of their implementation, preferably within the environmental context. As someone who thrives in a multi-disciplinary research environment focused on supporting external stakeholders solve real-world challenges, crucially, you also have what it takes to innovate using your socio-economic expertise.
