The Department of Physics seeks to appoint a Research Fellow to work as part of a team within the Centre for Fusion, Space and Astrophysics (CFSA) to work on simulations and theory of solar active regions. Specifically, the job will involve running 3D simulations of active region coronal structure e.g., flares and unstable loops, with the aim of improving thermal transport models used in large-scale MHD simulations. The work will involve running
MHD simulations and comparing with observation, theory and previous published results. Experience at running simulations or the solar corona is essential.
You will be an excellent communicator capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a research team. You will possess excellent planning and time management skills to ensure your research objectives are achieved effectively.
If you are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD but have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant at the top of level 5 of the University grade structure (£31,411). Upon receipt of evidence of the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure (£32,348).
We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.
