Location: South Kensington, London
Job Summary
Producing sustainable materials from widely available and abundant resources is a prerequisite to securing the supply chain needed for building sustainable technologies and reaching the net zero targets for 2050. But how can we best answer the question: “What is truly sustainable and how can it be implemented at the scale needed for decarbonisation? Answering this question is vital to ensure that we invest in the right technologies to get us to net zero, by 2050.
The Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking a Research Associate to perform life cycle and technoeconomic analysis to identify and support the most promising processes, materials and applications within the framework of an a UKRI funded multidisciplinary programme grant on the manufacturing of next generation sustainable materials from bio-based resources. The bio-based materials will be applied in technologies to support the transition to net zero such as sustainable pigments, composites, green batteries or catalysts for fuel cells and electrolysers. These applications will be analysed by working collaboratively with other postdocs within the project.
This is a unique chance to contribute to the decarbonisation of the UK economy across sectors by helping identify the right product, manufacturing methods and application to support a bio-based and circular economy
We are looking for a motivated research associate with research experience in life cycle and technoeconomic analysis and process modelling. The researcher should be able to work in a large and diverse team collaboratively across departments, faculties and even universities. This project is funded under a recent EPSRC funded programme grant (EP/W031019/1) to develop the next generation of sustainable materials.
The ideal candidate will have good theoretical knowledge and practical experience in using LCA tools such as Open Source LCA or others, prediction at scale based on lab results and process modelling.
