Aston University aims to be the UK's leading university for students aspiring to succeed in business and the professions, where original research, enterprise and inspiring teaching deliver local and global impact. We are an agile and innovative organisation that thrives on collaboration and partnerships with businesses and the community. Our integrated placement year, our applied high-impact research, and our commitment to enhancing employability and social mobility of our students, all help to make Aston University distinct both nationally and internationally.
We take pride in our achievements. They’re testament to the hard work of our dedicated staff and the ambition and enthusiasm of our students. It is for this reason that we have been ranked 22nd in the UK in the Guardian University Guide, 2023. Other recent accolades have included being awarded The Guardian 2020 University of the Year Award and the Times Higher Education Entrepreneurial University of the Year Award also in 2020. We were also shortlisted for the Times Higher Education Award for 2021. The 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessments published in May 2022, ranked 79% of Aston University research as ‘world leading’ (4*) or ‘internationally excellent’ (3*). We are building on our world-class research capability to help transform industries, support economic growth and improve lives.
Sitting within the College of Business and Social Sciences, Aston Business School (ABS) is part of an elite group of global business schools that hold the gold standard of ‘triple-crown’ accreditation from AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. ABS is one of the UK’s leading Business Schools for support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and helped to launch the national Help to Grow: Management programme. Our goal is to enhance enterprise and enterprises. We develop individuals to perform better within enterprises and the professions and to create successful new ventures. We support business leaders in enhancing their organisations’ performance and growth. We advise policy-makers on ways to improve society and the economy. Our impactful research creates new knowledge and skills that further these aspirations for business and policy-makers alike. To further strengthen our research and teaching portfolio, in line with our strategic objectives, ABS wishes to appoint a Professor of Accounting.
The Professor will lead research, scholarship or teaching activities of the School through professional practice and expertise. They will also foster internal and external collaboration with regional, UK and international businesses and other relevant bodies as appropriate to subject discipline and School strategy. In this instance, we are especially looking for candidates to assist in providing research leadership in the Department of Accounting in one of more areas related to the core research foci of the Department – audit, accounting governance and regulation, management accounting/the use of accounting information for decision making, accounting pedagogy and taxation. In particular, we would particularly welcome applications in the areas of audit, management accounting, applied data analytics and accounting for value-based businesses to bolster our critical mass in these areas.
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate an excellent track record of personal research achievement in a relevant area, together with experience of and commitment to delivering high quality, innovative teaching.
