Job Summary

The Student Financial Support team is seeking an experienced administrator with a passion for international opportunities and widening participation to join the team as a Turing Programme Officer. The role will support the promotion and management of the Turing Scheme within the college, and work as part of the STEMMB Global Committee to widen participation and grow international opportunities available to students. There are also opportunities to work with others in the team during this exciting period of growth in our funding portfolio.

The Student Financial Support team provides advice to students and staff on Government funding and available scholarships, and administers all centrally managed scholarships, bursaries, hardship support, placement grants, and US Federal Loans. The functions of the team have been essential in supporting students through the impacts of the COVID pandemic and meeting other recent challenges impacting the global community. We have also seen significant growth in the College’s scholarships offered to international and domestic students, reflecting the College’s commitment to value and improve diversity.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Support the Student Financial Support Manager with the monitoring and implementation of centralised processes for promotion; managing applications; awarding grants; reporting; and evaluation of the 6 activity streams receiving STEMMB Global bursaries.
  • Ensure data is recorded securely and accurately on internal and external sources, maintain statistical records, and prepare data for the purposes of reporting, auditing, and strategic analysis.
  • Work collaboratively with relevant college departments to establish processes to promote and widen participation in STEMMB Global opportunities for students from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Be the first point of contact for students with queries related to the Turing Scheme
  • Monitor the annual spend on STEMMB Global bursaries against each activity budget, ensuring resources are allocated where needed
  • Input into future policy and strategic decisions for STEMMB Global opportunities
  • Assess hardship fund (Student Support Fund) applications.
  • Contribute to the annual review of the Student Support Fund administration.

Essential requirements

  • Proven experience at a similar level.
  • Experience in providing a positive and responsive customer-focused service.
  • Experience in prioritising work and managing demanding workloads successfully.
  • Experience in data analysis and calculations, presenting findings accurately and appropriately to support effective reporting of information.
  • Abilities to work with a wide range of people with a working understanding of widening participation.
  • Great oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer care skills, including sensitivity to the needs of your customers.
  • Advanced IT skills (Word for general administrative duties and mail merge, Excel with an understanding of V-Lookups, pivot tables, email, and use of databases).
  • Flexibility and a capacity to adapt to the changing demands of the job.

This is a full time post, fixed term for 24 months
