Context

The University of Tokyo is currently looking for an enthusiastic scholar with a commitment to high-quality education to join our international team in the ALESS and ALESA programs. For more on these programs please see the official site at: https://ale2.c.u-tokyo.ac.jp/ale_web/

Required Qualifications

Applicants should hold a PhD (or ABD with strong record of publication) in the natural or social sciences, medicine, or engineering (ALESS), or in a subject field within the humanities or social sciences (ALESA). All applicants must possess a very high (native or near-native) level of English proficiency. Prior experience teaching academic writing, scientific writing, or English as a Foreign Language is an advantage. 

Responsibilities

The appointee will teach six 105-minute English classes and one senior division class (Global Liberal Arts) each week from the 2023 A semester. Classes meet once per week and there are 13 to 14 weeks per semester, with two semesters per year. 

Salary

6,600,000 Japanese yen per year (gross salary). Please note that relocation costs for moving to Tokyo, including flights, are not covered.

  6. A 500-word essay in English describing your teaching philosophy and your experience teaching either English academic writing or spoken fluency to university students. (If you do not have such experience, give a description of how you would teach one of these courses.)
