De Montfort University (DMU) is a vibrant and ambitious institution, committed to delivering a sector-leading student experience through innovation, inclusion, and impact. Our diverse community and strong industry partnerships are supported by a modern campus and a clear vision for digital transformation. Since the launch of our Digital Transformation Strategy in November 2022, we’ve made significant progress—from laying the foundations with a new network infrastructure to embedding user-centred design practices that ensure our digital services meet the real needs of students and staff. We are now entering the next phase of that journey, making this an especially exciting time to join the university.
Faculty / Directorate
Our Digital and Technology Directorate is central to delivering DMU’s transformation agenda. We are reimagining how digital services are developed, delivered, and maintained—moving towards agile product-led models more commonly seen in the wider public sector. Through a strategic move to cloud platforms and the active reduction of technical debt, we are creating a modern, responsive digital environment. As trusted advisors in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, automation, and service design, our teams focus on improving university-wide systems and experiences. The AV Facilities team plays a crucial role in ensuring our physical and digital teaching spaces are fit for purpose, reliable, and future-ready.
Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Audio Visual Engineer to join our AV Facilities team and help support a wide range of learning, teaching, and collaboration spaces across campus. This hands-on, practical role is vital to maintaining and enhancing the university’s AV infrastructure. From preparing lecture theatres and supporting live events to resolving real-time technical faults, your work will ensure our AV systems remain reliable and effective for both students and staff. You will also contribute to the integration and configuration of AV technologies, helping to deliver high-quality, seamless user experiences that are aligned with wider digital services. Whether supporting Lecture Capture systems or enabling hybrid MS Teams meetings, your expertise will be integral to our digital service delivery.
Please note that this role will be based on campus 5 days per week.
Ideal Candidate
You’ll bring proven experience supporting and maintaining AV equipment in education, conferencing, or similar environments. A strong understanding of technologies such as projectors, flat panel displays, audio systems, and AV control platforms (e.g., Crestron, Extron) is essential. You should be comfortable diagnosing faults across AV and IT systems and confident working independently in time-sensitive scenarios. Equally important is your ability to provide clear, friendly support to users with a range of technical abilities. We’re looking for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering high-quality service. Experience in AV design, integration, or supporting specialist teaching environments is desirable, as is familiarity with ITIL-aligned processes.
