We are recruiting a postdoctoral scientist with a background in development and use of computational tools for macromolecular crystallography and single particle cryo-EM to join the Computational Structural Biology group working with Dr Paul Emsley. Specifically, the position involves collaborating with colleagues on the development of crystallography for the web-browser. This involves transferring and innovating upon the computational methods, tools and interface for model-building, refinement and structure validation from the desktop program Coot into the web-browser.
The ideal applicant will have a PhD in a related field or be due to complete within 6 months, with a background in software suit development and will have contributed to scientific papers. Applicants will need to have experience of and ability to perform techniques relevant to the project and be able to work well in a team. Particularly useful would be: experience on development and maintenance of a substantial software project, JavaScript or TypeScript, C++, WebAssembly React and interface design. Knowledge of macromolecular crystallography at theoretical and practical level as well as relevant computational tools including model-building, refinement, ligands and protein-ligand complexes would be useful. Experience in helping PhD students and young researchers would also be desirable.
The successful applicant will be awarded a 2-year Career Development Fellowship/ Postdoctoral Training Scheme position. This is a training and development position for a Postdoctoral Scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, is moving into a new research discipline or has limited experience of key transferable skills.
