The Department of Philosophy in the School of Humanities is seeking to appoint a Lecturer whose role will be to contribute to the teaching programme of the Department in Philosophy (both undergraduate and postgraduate), to conduct research at a high level that develops and sustains the research activity of the Department, and to conduct administrative duties in an efficient and timely manner.

Among the duties laid out in the Job Description, you will:

  • Deliver the Department’s teaching in philosophy at all undergraduate levels, in several core areas focusing on: philosophy of mind, epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, introductory logic, philosophical skills, history of philosophy.
  • Convene modules in the introductory first year of the undergraduate programme, in the more philosophically demanding second year, and in the research-led modules that comprise the third year.
  • Supervise the work of students on projects and dissertations at all levels.
  • Carry out independent and collaborative research and develop a productive research programme.
  • Write papers for publication in leading academic journals and other relevant media, individually or collaboratively.
  • Demonstrate engagement with and potential to contribute to the Department’s REF activities, including the Impact agenda.
  • Attract and supervise doctoral students.
  • Take on key departmental roles such as Director of Teaching and Learning, Assessment Officer, Director of Academic Tutoring, Admissions Officer, among others.
  • Participate in and coordinate departmental recruitment initiatives such as Open Days and Visit Days.
