Senior Tutor in English for Academic Purposes

University of Nottingham Ningbo China – Centre for English Language Education (CELE)

The Centre for English Language Education (CELE) is now seeking exceptional candidates to join us as Senior Tutors in English for Academic Purposes (EAP).

About Centre for English Language Education (CELE)

Since the development of the Nottingham Ningbo campus in 2004, the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) has aimed to promote high-quality EAP teaching in its structure and support of academic programmes delivered in China. With around 120 academic staff, the CELE operation at UNNC is now one of the largest of its kind in the world and is currently supporting students on UNNC Preliminary Year modules, presessionals, summer schools and in-sessional language and academic skills support programmes.

Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified English language teaching professionals able to offer experience and expertise in one or more of the following key fields:

  • EAP/ESP syllabus, curriculum and materials design, including online teaching and support through Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs)
  • Management of EAP programmes at foundation, Pre-Sessional and/or In-Sessional levels
  • EAP/ESP assessment design and related training for staff moderation/standardisation

About You

The successful applicant must have a Masters degree in TESOL/Applied Linguistics (or similar postgraduate equivalent teaching qualification) with English as first language (or equivalent competence). Substantial university foundation level teaching experience essential, with proven experience in course/academic project/assessment development and management, leading teams and prioritizing work to strict deadlines. The successful candidate will also directly line manage up to 10 individual academic staff and be responsible for carrying out classroom observations of teaching, as well as conducting annual staff performance reviews. Delivery of teaching on credit-bearing EAP/ESP courses will also be required. 

Your Remuneration, Benefits and Support

The successful candidate will be offered a fixed-term contract for up to 3 years, which may be extended by mutual agreement. Salary will be within the range of RMB 429,906 – RMB 566,105 per annum (pro rata for fractional posts), depending on skills and experience, and salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance. In addition, we provide a range of benefits and entitlements, including accommodation allowance, insurances, schooling support, home flight, relocation & repatriation support, and paid annual leave.
