Role Summary

The School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences is world-leading, performing cutting-edge and translational research in all aspects of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation.  This allows us to address societal challenges from multidisciplinary perspectives through impactful research that also enriches our degree programmes.

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy based at the University’s Dubai Campus who will make a significant contribution to education and administration. The post holder will be expected to significantly contribute to the development and delivery of our MSc musculoskeletal physiotherapy programme in Dubai. Alongside this they will be an excellent academic citizen on the Dubai campus, likely to be demonstrated through generous, mutually respectful, and supportive working relationships with all staff and students.

Academic Development Programme - new Assistant Professors will undertake a 5-year development programme, at the end of which they are expected to be promoted to Associate Professor. The programme consists of a variety of development opportunities and the time to reflect and develop.

Main Duties

Education

You will contribute across the range of teaching and learning activities:

  • Teach and examine courses at a range of levels relevant to healthcare;
  • Maintain your registration as a physiotherapist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and/or Dubai Health Authority (DHA) as appropriate;
  • Plan and review your own teaching approaches and encourage others to do the same;

Management/Administration

To contribute to School and Dubai campus administration. This may include:

  • Contributing to the administration/management of teaching across the School;
  • Where appropriate, leading and managing a team to devise and implement a new and/or revised process (e.g. new programme or a recruitment drive);

Citizenship

Contributing to an inclusive working environment:

  • Pursuing your activities in a way that helps others to pursue their activities effectively and efficiently;
  • Demonstrating a willingness to be involved in a variety of activities supporting University life (e.g., participation in graduation, Departmental/School committees);

Person Specification

  • Normally, a higher Degree relevant to the physiotherapy discipline (completed/near completion of PhD/Professional Doctorate, or a master’s degree and a proven track record of success and broad experience in higher education or health care leadership roles).
  • Qualified physiotherapist holding current, or eligible for, HCPC and/or DHA registration.
  • Extensive teaching experience and scholarship within Musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
  • A commitment to quality enhancement in physiotherapy practice.
