We are looking for a skilled Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on an innovative research project that has been funded through EPSRC and SFI (https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=EP%2FS016171%2F1). This project looks substantially increase the capacity of optical transceivers well into the Terabit regime using a combination of optical combs and advanced media conversion techniques. The work is a collaboration between Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies, Aston University, Birmingham, and the RINCE Institute, Dublin City University, Dublin.
The successful candidate will join an established team within the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies under the supervision of Professor Andrew Ellis and will carry out research in purpose-built photonics research facilities at Aston University. They will develop advanced ultra-high-capacity optical transmitter and receivers, addressing limitations of resolution and sampling frequency with novel optical solutions. They will target multi terabit/s rate, and will demonstrate the performance benefits in realistic test scenarios including extended tests during secondments to partner institutions.
They will have a strong track record in the development of transmitters and receivers in optical communications. An ability to learn new techniques quickly is highly desirable and additional training will be given as needed.
Candidates with post-doctoral experience or who have recently submitted a relevant PhD and are awaiting award will be considered at the Grade 8 Research Associate.
