Lecturer in Sociolinguistics (Teaching & Scholarship)
About the Role
The Department of Linguistics, within the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film is looking to expand by appointing a Lecturer who specialises in sociolinguistics and phonetics.
Duties under Teaching and Scholarship:
Duties will include convening and teaching undergraduate modules, contributing to MA provision as appropriate, (co)-supervising PhD students, and undertaking administrative roles as required within the Department. You will be expected to teach on the following or closely related modules: Introductory Phonetics, Language in the UK, Sociolinguistic Variation and Change, and Language and Gender.
About You
You will hold a PhD in Linguistics or have an equivalent professional qualification, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, good organisational and communicative skills are also essential.
About the School/Department
The department of Linguistics is based within the School of Languages, Linguistics, and Film. The department was top-ranked for research quality among UK linguistics departments in the last three national research assessment exercises (REF2021, REF2014, and RAE2008). Present research strengths of the department are within the areas of sociolinguistics, phonetics, and their interface; syntax and semantics and their interface; and neurolinguistic/psycholinguistic perspectives on the above, with three experimental laboratories. As well as a popular MA programme, the department is home to a thriving and vibrant PhD student community.

The post is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for 10 months, with an expected start date of 1 September 2023 until 30 June 2024. The starting salary will be Grade 5, in the range of £45,931 - £48,414 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
