Applications are invited for a Laboratory Technician to join the Laboratory of Dr Stephen Robinson in the Gut Microbes and Health programme at Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.

Background:

Dr Stephen Robinson’s group are interested in understanding how microbiota-host interactions regulate vascular systems across our entire lives, including during early development, adult homeostasis, normal and dysfunctional ageing and in pathological states (e.g. cancers and tissue injuries). Our ultimate goal is to guide the use and design of microbiota-based therapies in order to maintain life-long vascular health.

The role:

The Laboratory Technician will join a project focused on understanding how specific endothelial cell receptors mediate these processes. They will carry out health monitoring and genotyping of mouse colonies.

In this role, the post holder will have the opportunity to develop their skills in the management of large, complex mouse colonies. As well as developing a basic understanding of in vivo experimental setup, data analyses and presentation.

The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a BSc or equivalent in a scientific subject relevant to the post with previous experience of working in a laboratory. They will have knowledge and an understanding of mammalian genetics and cell biology methodologies including nucleic acid and protein extraction and further analysis by PCR as well as handling human biological samples. The post holder will have excellent record keeping and time management skills.

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £26,600 to £32,800 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post for a contract of 16 months.
