We have an opportunity to join us as Operations Manager of Research Services - Institute for Clean Growth & Future Mobility (CGFM).
RESEARCH SERVICES
Research Services operates under the leadership of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and the line-management of the Director of Research Services. Research Services is the primary support department for: research quality; research systems; research projects funding and compliance; research projects development, costing and delivery support, research ethics and governance and research operations. This role will be based in the Institute for Clean Growth and Future Mobiity (CGFM).
THE INSTITUTE FOR CLEAN GROWTH & FUTURE MOBILITY (CGFM)
CGFM comprises of 3 Research Centres: The Centre for E Mobility and Clean Growth which conducts research into energy storage, power electronics, electric machines and hydrogen fuel cells, the Centre for Manufacturing and Materials, researching structural integrity of materials, non-destructive testing, functional materials, digital and sustainable manufacturing, metrology, laser joining and the Centre for Future Transport and Cities researching connected and autonomous vehicles (including drones), user-centred design, human factors, cyber-security, structural optimisation and crash trauma. The Institute is unique within the University in having much of its research conducted in industry-facing centres which are collaborations with large companies or which host smaller companies on site. These include the Centre for Advanced Low Carbon Propulsion Systems, The Centre for Connected and Autonomous Automotive Research, the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering and the National Transport Design Centre (NTDC). NTDC has recently won a major contract to manage the National Centre for Accessible Transport – an evidence centre for all aspects of research data on transport for disabled people.

THE ROLE
Embedded in the Research Institute, as a member of its Senior Leadership team, the post holder will work in partnership with the Institute and Centre Directors to develop and deliver an ambitious strategy and business plan for the Institute. The post holder will work closely with the Centre Directors and/or theme leads in to deliver operations, and report, via a dotted line, into the Research Centre Directors. The post holder will work also closely with colleagues across Research Services and Enterprise and Innovation to co- ordinate contributions related to research funding, research excellence, enterprise and innovation and project management,
The post holder will be expected to have experience of developing strategic partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders across sector, a proven track record of leading and managing high performance teams, including responsibility for managing finance, budgets and staff recruitment. In addition, they should have substantial project management skills. commercial or business development experience.
The role requires the ability to develop support processes that are fit for purpose in the context of engineering research. The postholder should be able to have sufficient understanding to describe the research at a high level to internal and external stakeholders, to understand funding proposals sufficiently well to review and challenge, to be able to chair research seminars and to identify and communicate potential areas for internal and external collaboration.
