The role
The Department of English at the University of Bristol invites applications for a Lectureship in Eighteenth-Century Literature (1700-1800) (Pathway 1, level b). The successful candidate will contribute fully to high-quality teaching and administration within the Department of English and pursue research in their area of specialism to the highest standards in order to enhance the international research profile of the Department, the School of Humanities, and the Faculty of Arts.
The successful candidate should be able to start on 1 September 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter

What will you be doing?
You will work further to develop an established research profile in your areas of expertise through publication, bidding for external research funding, and presenting your research at national and international conferences. You will play an active role in maintaining and enhancing the research profile of the Department, School, and Faculty and may contribute to generating wide-ranging impact. You will also be expected, after training and mentoring, to supervise postgraduate research students. You will therefore be expected to develop and keep up-to-date with scholarship in relevant fields of teaching and research.
You will design and deliver units across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the Department of English, including research-led specialist units and a unit on Eighteenth Century prose fiction, contributing to team-taught core and period units, and teaching flexibly across the English curriculum. You may also contribute to School and Faculty programmes and teaching initiatives relevant to your specialisms.
You will take responsibility for a share of administration at Department, School and Faculty level as appropriate to your experience and career stage. You will be expected to develop an understanding of University structures, policies, and procedures necessary to fulfil such roles effectively.
