About the College: Homerton’s story began in eighteenth-century East London, on the Homerton High Street from which we take our name, but from the outset the College has had a global impact. As first a Nonconformist ‘Dissenting Academy’; then a world-renowned teacher-training institution in Cambridge; and since 2010 a full College of the University, with over 1000 students and 70 fellows. For more than 250 years we have championed ground-breaking and free-thinking work. The College’s mission has evolved and adapted to a rapidly-changing world. From abolitionist ministers to pioneers of child-centred learning, advocates for women’s education, and leading biomedical researchers, Homertonians have demonstrated a commitment to society, and to making positive change. As the only twenty-first century Cambridge College, and one that draws on a long tradition of education and public service, we pride ourselves on delivering unrivalled excellence in learning, education, and research.
