The University of Derby is seeking an experienced admissions professional to be part of Registry’s senior management team and deliver a seamless customer journey to thousands of diverse UK and international applicants every year.

About the University of Derby

The University of Derby is a modern, innovative education provider and is the first choice for students who want a supportive, aspirational environment, where they can equip themselves for the career they choose.

The University is now working towards its 2018-2030 strategic framework, focused on achieving its core objective of delivering an applied university of today and for tomorrow. Their aim is to empower people across the globe, supporting them to achieve their potential and make a positive contribution to society, by delivering excellence and opportunities for all.

About the role

The Head of Admissions will lead the delivery and development of the University’s admissions function, ensuring it is responsive to the needs of diverse UK and international applicants in a competitive recruitment environment, across its undergraduate, postgraduate, apprenticeship and online programmes.

The post holder will aim to instil a culture of continuous improvement by providing a customer-centred, data-driven and compliant service. Working closely with senior colleagues in the College, Strategic Insights and Planning, and Marketing and Communications teams you will help develop key recruitment strategies and ensure their expertise and knowledge supports and influences the University’s strategic decision-making.

You will also work with colleagues in Digital Solutions and Services to ensure digital platforms and services meet the needs of prospective students at home and internationally.

Overseeing the full applicant journey, you will play a key role in the University’s clearing and confirmation operation, and supporting key University events such as open days, outreach events and enrolment.

Who are we looking for?

The University of Derby is seeking a proven leader who can demonstrate their expert knowledge of admissions, including the policy and regulatory environment within UK higher education, to oversee this critical core function of the Registry. Candidates must be guided by professional standards and good practice in admissions, compliance and customer experience. You must also be able to demonstrate strong understanding of the UCAS application system, UKVI and OfS regulations, with an ability to use this knowledge to influence and shape strategic decision-making.

Experience in supporting the delivery of excellent customer service and continuous improvement using evidence-based and data-driven approaches, is needed. Skills in resource management, embedding a culture of high performance and building strong collaborative relationships across an organisation at all levels is also important. Excellent digital literacy and confidence with software such as MS Office, Tableau and PeopleSoft, or a similar student record system, is essential.

With strong written and verbal communication skills, you will plan and deliver large-scale projects and operations, and be able to work under pressure motivating staff to operate in an agile, robust and effective way, particularly during peak periods such as during the clearing cycle.
