We are seeking an outstanding Research Associate, Resilient Systems & the Environment, Resilience and International Development (R&ID) Programme within the Environmental Change Institute (ECI). In the context of the Oxford Martin Programme on Systemic Resilience, the successful candidate will contribute to research on quantitative and qualitative methods, metrics, frameworks and tools to assess risks, critical systems vulnerability and systemic resilience, as well as contributing to research on scenario planning and analysis, compound risks and early warning systems, systems stress testing and solution design.

The successful applicant will play an important part in the delivery of Oxford Martin Programme on Systemic Resilience as well as contribute to wider projects and initiatives across the ECI R&ID programme. You will be a member of ECI R&ID programme within the ECI and will play an active role in the design and development of that new programme. You will be responsible for defined research project(s) within a discrete area of the Oxford Martin Programme on Systemic Resilience and the wider ECI R&ID research programme.

You will work closely with stakeholders to co-design solutions, for example, in government, IFIs, Central Banks and supervisors, banks, insurers, asset owners and asset managers and government. Across the ECI R&ID research programme, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to linked projects such as Nature-Climate Scenarios & Analytics for Financial Decision-Making and the Global Resilience Index Initiative (www.globalresilienceindex.org).

You must hold, or be close to completion of a relevant PhD/DPhil together with relevant experience, for example in: natural and environmental sciences and modelling; engineering; mathematics; geography; economics; or finance. You will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes and the ability to manage your own academic research and associated activities. Experience and strong interest in adaptation and resilience; risk assessment; systems analysis and modelling; early warning systems; and/or decision theory and one or more of the following: nature-related risks and impacts; food systems, infrastructure systems; climate change; environmental science; disasters; trade and supply chains is essential. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings is a must.
