Are you interested in working for a world top 100 University? We have an exciting opportunity in the Department of Mechanical Engineering for a Research Associate to work on a research project funded by EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council). The project aims to develop a new vibration assisted incremental sheet forming (ISF) process with the aim of manufacturing hard-to-form materials such as light alloys under elevated temperatures. You will use your skills in experimental testing, analytical and numerical modelling to make an impact on developing novel ISF technologies for flexible manufacturing.

We are seeking candidates with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Material Sciences or equivalent experience, as well as substantial experience in conducting research in the incremental sheet forming field. As this role involves developing a new vibration assisted ISF process to test various hard-to-form materials, you will also need experience and skills in microstructural characterisation, formability assessment, and Finite Element modelling of material plastic deformation considering vibration and heat generation.

You will possess the ability to publish scientific papers, develop industrial case studies, and effective communication verbally and in writing. You will have opportunities to attend international conferences and research seminars to present research findings, and collaborate with other university researchers and industrial partners of the Project Team. You should also have project management skills to take responsibility in maintaining project progress and delivering tasks for project completion.

We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
