The School of Life Sciences is large and diverse academic department within the Faculty of Science and Health, engaging in research and education ranging from Biomedical Science to Marine Biology, creating a challenging and rewarding environment for both students and staff. We are looking for an ambitious individual to join our Professional Services team and to provide high quality administrative support for our diverse body of PhD and MSD students.
Duties of the Role
Working closely with the Graduate Research Director and the central Postgraduate Research Education (PGRE) team, the PGR Administrator has responsibility for providing dedicated high quality administrative support for our postgraduate research (PGR) students. You will take our students from admissions to submissions, supporting their full degree journey.
A substantial part of the role will be co-ordinating and providing support for research student progress boards, ensuring that student PhD progress is monitored effectively against agreed milestones and reports on progress are provided to central university team by required deadlines. In addition, you will support the application process for PGR students and deal with admissions queries, administer PhD studentship opportunities, offers and associated paperwork. Skills and qualifications required
You should have administrative experience in a busy, customer-orientated environment ideally gained in an education setting. You will require excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly with people from a range of backgrounds via email, in person and over the phone. As part of this role you will be required to manage and input large volumes of data in various systems, so a good level of IT literacy and the able to work accurately are essential, as is the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
