Job description
The Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries (CMCI) seeks to hire a Lecturer in Culture, Media & Creative Industries, specialising in Memory & Media. This exciting new post will contribute to the excellent research profile of the Department while also engaging in teaching and pastoral support across our expanding portfolio of courses. This includes the BA Culture, Media & Creative Industries and three postgraduate programmes: Cultural & Creative Industries MA; Arts & Cultural Management MA, and Global Media Industries MA.
We seek applicants who can contribute to our goals of delivering innovative, inclusive, and socially-engaged education, and the ongoing diversification of our curriculum. Building on existing research and teaching, the new post will provide distinctive new strengths in the intersecting areas of memory & media. The post holder will bring expertise in memory and media industries, and the uses of legacy and digital media in shaping contemporary society, cultural identity, and the interpretation of the past in the present. Desirable areas of research and teaching experience may include: social media, platforms and memory; memory and digital heritage practices; postcolonial, indigenous or environmental approaches to memory and media; the mobilisation of mediated memory practices in generating transformative imaginaries of the past, present and future.
CMCI is distinctive in its commitment to interdisciplinarity, and the position requires teaching across a broad range of areas. Indicatively, the Lecturer will lead or contribute to team-teaching on modules including Mediating Memory; Media 1.0; Memory Politics and Commemoration (BA level); Cultural Memory; Future Memory; Analysing Cultural & Creative Industries; Global Media Industries: Perspectives and Approaches (MA level). They will also supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Culture, Media & Creative Industries or a closely related discipline, with an excellent knowledge and understanding of a field of expertise relating to memory & media. They will be a highly effective educator, with experience of both face-to-face and online teaching and assessment in Higher Education, a commitment to student learning and welfare, and an aptitude for working within an interdisciplinary framework.
