We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Assistant (0.5FTE) to join the research group of Professor Kourosh Saeb-Parsy, Department of Surgery, University of Cambridge (Biomedical Campus) to support with a research project. The aim of this project, led by Prof Kourosh Saeb-Parsy, is to perform comprehensive multi-omic profiling of normal and diabetic human pancreas tissue samples, linked with detailed anonymised clinical data, in order to generate novel insights into the biological signature of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
The position will support the PI and a post-doctoral Research Associate, who will lead a multi-omic pipeline incorporating whole genome sequencing, transcriptomic, proteomic, lipidomic and metabolomic analysis, using a range of in vitro laboratory techniques. Gross histopathological analysis of the pancreas tissue will be performed to quantify islet cell mass, fat infiltration, vasculopathy and fibrosis in the glands. The post-holder will support the project by performing a range of activities including curating and cryopreservation of samples, processing samples for histopathological analysis (including sectioning and staining) and multi-omic analysis (including DNA & RNA extraction).
Applicants should be educated to degree level in a relevant subject area (molecular or cellular biology or an allied subject). Previous experience in a life science laboratory and experience of molcecular techniques is also essential for this role. While not essential, previous experience of working with multi-omic data (e.g. transcriptomics or proteomics) and/ or quantitative analysis skills using statistical programming packages is desirable.
