Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Games Design. Our teaching team brings together a range of expertise and experience in games and adjacent creative media, ranging from the theoretical and academic, to the practical and professional.
Our approach to staffing on our BA (and MA course) is to match staff to modules according to their personal strengths and skillsets. As such, we expect applicants to have expertise in at least one key area of game design and development, but we are flexible about what this key area of expertise might be. We are a software agnostic course, encouraging students to use multiple development environments (and design digital and non-digital games), and seek applicants with practical expertise and the ability to communicate these skills to students so that they can realise their creative ambitions.
Ideal applicant backgrounds would include;
This list is by no means exhaustive, we welcome applicants with divergent skillsets and experience. For us the priority is that applicants can constructively support students to make games, join a diverse and committed academic team, and help shape the future development of the Games Design courses.
The post is located in the School of Creative Arts and Industries, which has an excellent quality rating and a tradition of integrating practice and theory with creativity and professionalism. This new role would be ideal for someone looking to expand on an existing career as a games educator, or for someone with professional experience in art, production, or narrative for games, who is looking for a route into teaching. We seek someone who is passionate about making and playing games, and who wants to become an important member of a small and ambitious academic team.
