About the Job and department

This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly formed team and shape the approach to managing the University’s financial control risk exposure by reviewing and improving finance processes. Reporting to the Head of Finance (Assurance), the successful candidate will be supported by a Finance Compliance Officer.

Whilst some elements to the role require desk based analytical work, the appointed candidate will work proactively with a wide range of stakeholders. This will include undertaking compliance testing via activities such as ‘departmental health checks’ and developing practical, risk-informed solutions to improve, automate and simplify processes. The ability to understand the academic context and engage constructively with stakeholders to promote sound financial is crucial to this post.

This position contributes to the departmental objective of creating a long-term sustainable financial platform required for future growth, by continuously reviewing financial control processes and implementing solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness across the University.

What are we looking for in the ideal candidate?

Educated to degree level or equivalent, the successful candidate will draw on their expertise gained in obtaining a professional accounting qualification, and working knowledge of UK employment taxes and VAT through post qualification experience.  Current knowledge of UK accounting standards and overall technical awareness will be utilised to deliver workable solutions in a timely manner, using IT systems and large-scale financial management systems.

With a sound understanding of the nature and purpose of financial controls and the management of financial risk, the successful candidate will use their excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a diverse set of audiences, engaging with and explaining difficult concepts, providing training, and developing resources.

The appointed candidate will be required to work from the University of Warwick campus for a minimum of three set days per week on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The hybrid working model could be subject to change.
