The School of Geography and the Environment and St John’s College are delighted to offer this exciting opportunity of a two-year Departmental and College Lecturer in Human Geography. You will be part of a lively and intellectually stimulating research community that performs to the highest international levels in research and publications and will have access to the excellent research facilities that Oxford offers.
The successful candidate will be expected to give high-quality lectures, classes and tutorials in human geography, especially political geography, at both undergraduate and graduate level and have a strong research interest in an area within or complementary to political geography. You will contribute to university examing and organise teaching and give tutorials in Geography at St John’s College. You will participate in the planning and delivery of fieldtrips. As a secondary priority to teaching, the post holder will conduct independent research preferably in the field of political geography.
To undertake this role, you will hold, or be close to completing a PhD/DPhil in human geography, with a preference for political geography or a closely related field. You will have a publication record commensurate with career stage, and familiarity with the existing literature and research in the relevant field. Experience of qualitative/quantitative research and analytical techniques is a must. You will need to demonstrate the ability or potential to be an effective teacher of undergraduate and graduate students of high ability, to lecture at an appropriate level in an interesting and engaging manner, and to carry out student assessment, examination and course design. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills to support undergraduates and graduate students are essential.
