About us
UCL Division of Biosciences has an outstanding international reputation, ranking 8th in the QS world university rankings for biological sciences. We host a community of over 500 staff covering a diverse portfolio from protein interactions to cell function, organism development, genetics, population studies, to ecology and the environment. Much of our research crosses traditional boundaries, and we sit at the nexus of a broad range of interdisciplinary collaborations across UCL. We are now recruiting a Professor position to lead our cross disciplinary research in Ecosystems and Biodiversity Research, based at the new UCL East campus.
About the role
The new role will support the growth and leadership of BioSciences’ new People and Nature Laboratory at UCL East through conducting outstanding cross-disciplinary research, teaching, outreach, and entrepreneurial activities in applied ecological and biodiversity research addressing global sustainable development goals. Research interests may include, but are not restricted to: (1) application of innovative technologies to understand biodiversity change and its consequences for ecological resilience, (2) implementing nature-based solutions in rural and urban landscapes, or (3) understanding the intersection of biodiversity, climate change and human health.
The People and Nature Lab unites Bioscience staff together with those from the UCL Departments of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering; Geography; and The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment and Computer Science. This unique interdisciplinary environment will tackle challenges posed by biodiversity loss, global ecosystem degradation and climate change, for a more sustainable relationship between people and nature. Based within the Department of Genetics, Evolution and Environment, the role is aligned to our new cross-disciplinary Masters programmes and other teaching opportunities.
A job description and person specification can be accessed at the bottom of this page.

About you
You will have a doctoral degree in a relevant field, an outstanding research portfolio that is linked to the People and Nature Lab’s activities with a proven ability to lead, previous research-based teaching experience, and a strong interest in interdisciplinary working, translational activity, and widening participation. This appointment is subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Academic Staff. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to present a research talk and attend an interview in November.
