You will undertake significant teaching, learning and assessment activities within the undergraduate and postgraduate courses of the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences, with a focus on the IBMS accredited undergraduate BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science and BSc (Hons) Human Biology programmes. You will maintain an appropriate portfolio of scholarly activity that will enhance the educational activities of the Centre for Biomedical Sciences and will contribute to Centre and School administration / outreach activities.

About the person:

The successful candidate must have the following education/qualification and experience requirements:

  • Honours degree in Biomedical Science or related subject area (e.g Cell and/or Molecular Biology, Developmental Biology, Molecular and/or Cellular Biochemistry, Human Genetics, Epigenetics, Translational Biology).
  • PhD in relevant subject.
  • Experience of teaching/training/supervising of students in a broad range of Biomedical Sciences with an ability to contribute across different programmes.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity e.g. relevant publications, conference presentation and/or papers, external funding, book reviews, practice manuals etc. or evidence of ability to publish.
  • Demonstrable scholarly interests that are sustainable and which complement the strategies of the Centre.
  • Teaching/supervisory experience at university undergraduate or postgraduate level in molecular/cell/tissue biology and/or molecular/cellular biochemistry and/or human genetics and translational biology.
  • Extensive experience in teaching, training, or supervising undergraduate or postgraduate students in key practical laboratory skills.
  • Hands-on expertise in a range of laboratory techniques including (but not limited to) microscopy (including fluorescence microscopy and image analysis), cell and tissue biology, cell culture, and protein, DNA, or RNA analysis (such as flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridisation, Western blotting, ELISA, qRT-PCR, and cloning) and a proven track record of teaching/training/supervising students in their application.
  • Experience in the design of educational or training materials and activities e.g. tutorials, workshops on protocols or equipment.
  • Experience of setting and judging student work and/or assessments.
  • Evidence of high quality/impactful teaching/training/supervising of students.
  • Experience of contribution to a range of academic administrative/management tasks commensurate with stage of career.
  • Ability to contribute to a range of community/ outreach activities.
  • Ability to manage resources and staff.
