We are seeking a postdoctoral research associate with expertise in the synthesis and characterisation of new inorganic materials, particularly applicants with experience in non-oxide synthesis and air sensitive techniques.
The post forms part of a wider multidisciplinary team that integrates the targeting of new materials for specific properties (e.g., for batteries), discovering entirely uncharted chemistry (e.g., multiple anion compounds), and the development of new methods that accelerate the discovery of materials (e.g., combining structure prediction and machine learning). For example, we work closely with experts in computer science as part of the Leverhulme Research Centre for Functional Materials Design, and the environment that this creates is central to all of the groups work. You must therefore be able to interact effectively with colleagues with complementary skills (e.g. structure prediction or measurement physics specialists). This post is available on a three year fixed term basis.
Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received.
