We are looking to appoint a criminologist who can contribute to the curriculum of two programmes BA Criminology and BA Criminology with Psychology across the years. The focus is the delivery of criminological theory and criminological research (preference to qualitative methods). There is room to deliver some specialist topics and participate in wider departmental activities.

The successful candidate will:

  • Contribute to the delivery of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Criminology.
  • Carry out teaching support activities, including marking, preparation, course monitoring, tutorial and dissertation supervision, administration, curriculum development, cohort leadership.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with practitioners, practice placement providers, purchasers of Criminology programmes, staff within the Criminology Subject Group and throughout the University.
  • Maintain and develop academic, professional, research and teaching skills by undertaking appropriate professional updating and staff development to support high quality teaching, curriculum development and research.
  • Agree appropriate research and enterprise objectives in order to contribute to the research and enterprise aims of the Faculty.
  • Promote the Criminology department portfolio within the University and externally; support related marketing and public relations activities.
  • Play a (significant – for Senior Lecturer) role in enhancing the quality and supporting the growth of the department and contribute to the achievement of Faculty objectives.

About You 

The successful candidate will demonstrate comprehensive understanding of research and theoretical concepts in Criminology. You will have experience of delivering skills in criminological methodologies; discourse or content analysis would be desirable.  

You should be able to demonstrate recent course delivery experience within Criminology and experience on delivering criminological research methods, methodologies and ethics. You should be able to contribute to our undergraduate and planned postgraduate offers across all core and some designated modules. 

A PhD in Criminology or relevant cognate discipline, or near completion is essential, as is an ongoing commitment to high quality research.

Qualifications 

Essential;

  • Degree qualification in Criminology or equivalent in relevant subject.
  • Doctorate in relevant subject, completed or within 12 months of completion.
  • Professional Recognition as HEA Fellow (D2) or teaching qualification recognised by HESA, or willingness to obtain within an agreed timescale.

Desirable;

  • Masters’ degree in Criminology or relevant subject.
