Hours: Full time, in office; option to WFH one day per week after three-month probationary period

Purpose of the Role

Elizabeth School of London (ESL) is an undergraduate programme delivery institution partnered with several UK universities. As an Academic Manager, you will be responsible for the undergraduate degree programme(s) we deliver on behalf of one of those partners. 

You will be based in London, primarily at our flagship campus in Canary Wharf, with one or two days per week at our Holborn campus. 

The scope of the role's responsibility ranges from student induction to final graduation. It includes but is not limited to:

  • Leading and managing all academic operational matters concerning the partner university to which you are assigned
  • Ensuring that the quality of teaching of lectures and tutorials improves continuously
  • Maintaining a roster of effective and qualified teaching staff
  • Ensuring that examinations and assessments are assessed and moderated according to the standards of the partner university
  • Working closely with the Academic Quality Assurance and Enhancement team at ESL
  • Working in concert with the Academic Partnership team to ensure that communication with the partner university is consistent and valuable
  • Communicating effectively about academic operational matters with staff at the partner university
  • Managing a Programme Leader, Assistant Programme Leader(s), Academic Coordinators across ESL’s seven campuses, and Academic Administrators
  • Following and supporting the strategic direction set by the Dean and/or the Academic Director
  • Having a thorough knowledge of the partner university’s policies across all areas of programme delivery
  • Attending regular meetings with partner university staff on operational matters, as well as Board of Studies meetings and PAB/MAB meetings, as required
  • Working with the Student Success/Retention team to monitor leading indicators of student retention such as attendance and assessment results
  • Occasional travel (reimbursed) to ESL’s campuses in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Leicester, and Northampton
  • Cultivating an ethos of academic professionalism and excellence among the members of your team and the Academic department in general
  • Implementing the policies of the partner university and ESL on matters such as academic misconduct
  • Maintaining scrupulous records of academic operational matters, which may be audited by the partner university from time to time
  • Carrying out such other duties as may occasionally be required 

Essential Qualifications

  • PhD from a recognised university
  • Native command of English, or an IELTS certification at 8 or above
  • Management experience at an educational institution
  • Experience of managing the expectations of internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of working in a UK HE institution
  • Right to work in the UK, or British citizenship 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience of teaching in the subject areas of Business and Management or Computing at HE level at a UK or UK-style university
