Swansea University’s vision is to transform lives and futures by providing an outstanding academic environment with a balance of excellence between world-class teaching and research, driving impact that is enabled by effective regional and global collaborations.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to contribute to the EUREKA collaborative R&D project I2D|MSW (Intelligence to Drive | Move-Save-Win) project. I2D|MSW brings together a multidisciplinary team of around 11 organisations across 7 countries. The UK consortium (funding from UKRI Innovate UK) comprises an SME, Electronic Media Services Ltd (EMS), and two academic institutions: Brunel University London (BUL) & Swansea University (SU).

This project aims to develop new products and services based on the emerging 5G C-V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) standard to make roads and cities, safe, secure, resilient, fraud-proof, and sustainable. The project will facilitate large-scale trials in the UK, EU and Canada, enabling the technology and use cases to be tested under a wide range of conditions.

Over the course of project, you will be:

  1. Analysing state-of-the-artwork and evaluating security vulnerabilities in 5G-enabled autonomous vehicle communications (intra-and inter-vehicle to everything);
  2. Developing new and lightweight secure architecture, implementing proof-of-concepts, and evaluating performance measurements and formal verification.
  3. Traveling to the test sites and the locations of our industrial partner EMS, to do collaborative research and experiment.

The successful candidate should hold a degree (PhD) in Computer Science or Equivalent and have a track record in one or more of the following areas:

  • Low-power communications and networking for battery-powered, severely constrained wireless embedded devices.
  • Applying cryptographic, security engineering and lightweight security techniques to address new research challenges.
