About the Role

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on the project “Next generation reactors for the multi-kg scale CO2 mineralization of desalination & industrial brines to value-added carbonates” under the joint supervision of Dr Gregory Chass, Dr Devis Di Tommaso and Prof. Kostya Trachenko within the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences of Queen Mary University of London (UK).

About You

The ideal candidate should have a PhD degree in Physical Chemistry or a closely related field and be able to work effectively, independently and sociably within a team. Previous experience in advanced characterization techniques (neutron scattering, THz spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, nanoimaging, and Raman) is desirable. An interest/knowledge in cementitious materials, crystal growth and geochemistry are highly desirable.

The School of Physical and Chemical Sciences has a strong research output and demanding educational standards for its students, but all members benefit from a high level of academic and social integration. Chass Lab and Di Tommaso Lab are active research groups based in the SPCS at Queen Mary University of London. The groups are also part of the QMUL Materials Research Institute, that brings together a wide range of expertise from Queen Mary based academics with interest in materials research. These groups are particularly interested in CO2 utilisation, crystal growth, cementitious and amorphous materials.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is part time (18 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 2 years, with an expected start date of October 2023. The starting salary will be Grade 5, in the range of £38,165 to £44,722 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
