Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to help realise a new vision of urban planning education at New Zealand’s top world-ranked university and pre-eminent research led institution, the University of Auckland. The School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Auckland is looking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to teach and research in the field of Urban Planning with a social and community development focus. As the country’s major training institution for urban planners and provider of urban planning research, your contribution will have a significant influence for current and future generations living in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally. 

  • Plan and deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate lecture-based and seminar teaching in the Urban Planning Programme in the areas of social and community development issues relevant to urban planning, including diversity.
  • Plan and deliver high-quality teaching in the Urban Planning studios at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in studio topics that engage in the areas of social and community development issues relevant to urban planning, including diversity.
  • Establish and maintain a high-quality supervision, research, and publication programme consistent with the strategic directions of the Urban Planning Programme in the areas of social and community development issues relevant to urban planning, including diversity.
  • Support the School through working with the Head, associated academic staff, professional groups, communities and the overall urban planning profession on the delivery of School Vision.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • A professionally recognised qualification in urban planning (planning)
  • A PhD in urban planning or related field in social sciences and/or community development
  • A strong record of research through publication in social and community development issues relevant to urban planning.
  • Experience in tertiary level teaching.
  • Experience in postgraduate supervision.

This is a fulltime (40 hours per week), permanent role

Remuneration:

L1 - L 7: $91,328 - $109,099 dependent on experience and qualifications

SL3–SL5, $116,108 - $133,386 dependent on experience and qualifications
