Full time - 35 hours per week

Contract type -  fixed term position available for three years.

This is an excellent opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic academic to join the School of Law as an Early Career Fellow in Family Law on a fixed term basis.  The successful candidate should either have completed a PhD (or be very close to completion of one) in Family Law or related areas of the law of persons, or have equivalent practical experience. 

Candidates should be able to demonstrate excellent research potential, and will be expected to develop and execute a realistic and achievable research plan.  They should also have a strong commitment to promoting the student experience and will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and assessment in the Private Law Subject Area.

The successful candidate will play a full part in the collegiate life of the Edinburgh Law School and the Private Law Subject Area.

  • Two samples of pending or published research work (which might include articles, book chapters or chapters of a thesis).

To join a dynamic team of academics working in Edinburgh Law School. The post will enable you to build on your existing research achievements, establish a strong teaching profile, and develop professional contacts across the University of Edinburgh and beyond. 

Your skills and attributes for success:     

  • Aptitude to deliver excellent research-led teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Family Law or related areas of the law of persons.
  • Ability to design and deliver course materials and to assess student performance. 
  • Ability to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students in their dissertation work.
  • Ability to develop expertise in the joint supervision of PhD students in Family Law or related areas of the law of persons.
  • Ability to develop a research plan in the area(s) of expertise, including through high quality publications.
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a collegial team within the Private Law Subject Area.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to engage students both on-campus and in online settings.
